Sigma Chi Fraternity shaped my character today. I quickly made an impression on my fellow pledges as they elected me Social Chairman for our pledge class. I was responsible for organizing functions with other sororities. This involved making new and interesting ideas for themes of the parties like jersey and toga celebrations. A natural socialite, I worked the parties to make sure everyone was enjoying the experience. As a sophomore, I was elected Assistant Recruitment Chairman. I was given the honorary title of the “Rush Crush” because I could naturally meet, sweet talk, and recruit the potential brothers, using my discretion of what would make a good member of our fraternity. This involved organizing different Rush events and multiple lunches and dinners to introduce young high school graduates to the world of Greek life. As a Junior, I moved out of “the house” and into a “live-out” just 3 doors down from the fraternity. Here we hosted countless parties and was a haven for brothers looking to get away from the stress that comes with being a college student. One person in particular made a lasting impression on me and I immediately saw his potential. He had been a pledge for his first year at the University of Oregon, but was dropped from the program because he did not make the grades up to the standard that was expected by the fraternity. Determined to hang onto this prospect, I invited him to live in our house, and kept tabs on him throughout his pledgeship to ensure that he would make it into Sigma Chi. His initiation into the brotherhood was one of the proudest moments of my life.
