Dreary days on the Oregon coast in January are many and crammed together. But it came a time in my life, in the middle of winter, in the middle of world shitstorm, and in the middle of my 'career', if you can even call it that, to take a personal vacation.

After a 2 hour drive to the beach town of Seaside, I get out of town to get my feet wet (ironically).

Walking in, I didn't really know what to expect. I had never done this before. The whole 'ridin solo' thing never really applied to me. Here I was, jumping in the ocean, by myself, looking for some sort of personal continuity. I said I was alone ... this was 6:45 PM at Oregon's most popular coast restaurant Mo's

I will always consider it 5 Stars but I would also be counting how many teeth are missing from the inhabitants (coasties) of this getaway. My O/U was 5 and it was way over.

Alright... time to drink. I hit the local theater turned bar with a movie spin wheel as its beer flight. She knows about cut.

Then a local dive where I stared at the wall.

Then stumble home and had to reintroduce myself to my next door neighbor.

Yes at 2:30 in the morning I stepped out for a smoke and locked myself out of my room... WITH my phone in the room. This was a bottom of the bucket hotel. One room with a couch and a kitchen and I had nowhere to go but to knock on Bob's door to try and get his help. Thankfully I forged across the street to the more dignified hotel, and got to the front desk to be able to get the code for the lockbox attached to the porch. They always say this but... ya

But sensing my spirit, the concierge gave me a popcorn bag, a handful of salt water taffees, and a little squeegee to keep me company. Much appreciated Sue Bird.

I woke up to more of the same

In the morning I reviewed my hotel pamphlet in case I was in another emergency situation. #3

Walking back into town to an established local coffee shop, I was reminded freedom isn't free.

Some struggling artists out there can relate, but the best stuff is in ho-dunk towns where people are inspired by bore... look up, look down, look up, look down, look up MAGNIFICENT

Always try and catch my show

And shop for the people who aren't there. Dad gets fudge. Mom got a book about John Wayne. Chuck got a pretty cool mug DnD dice dispenser thing. Jack gotta magnet. But the antique store presented something I could not pass up. Mint condition, tags still on 'em, each cost $90 that were listed at $350 retail. Bite the bullet. I am officially a collector.

After a nap off to a good drink and din at the nice restaurant

And I'm back to my room to reminisce about The Goonies

After I checked out, I thought I would squeeze in a little golf

And visit the aquarium

I paid respects to legends of old Lewis & Clark

I left knowing I wasn't scared of going to prom

Brought this for that girl I couldn't stop thinking about..
