Needless to say, every single athlete that paraded through Milan this 2026 winter was a winner. Regardless of the score or whether they got some new bling, the Olympics were a resounding success for all involved and the classic tradition of competition was compelling and exciting.
Hockey was the hallmark and both USA men's and women's teams got to throw their gear in the air and celebrate a milestone that can't be taken away from you. I learn a little more about Curling every 4 years and am still trying to identify how many twists the ice skaters do. The drones were a great touch. After watching for 2 weeks the sweetness of victory and the sour of defeat, the final wrap up brought tears to my eyes.
And then a reminder of what it takes to get a leg up
My cousin worked his way up to become VP of Finance for the NFL. He is a doctor, a father, husband, and fantastic. Mike 'Smudge' Smith has a weekly podcast called 'Out of Our League' with fellow host Charles Coplin and worm bites from Jason Wormser. The trio highlight elements of the sports universe that does not show up on Sports Center. Mike usually contributes some of the numbers and ratings while Charles usually talks about the talkers and production. It is an excellent representation of behind the scenes.
With inspiration from Charles, I have begun not just hearing but listening to sports broadcasts with a keen understanding of how fucking hard it is to talk for 2 straight hours. Mike Tirico was on top of his game for the better part of a month, and has earned the reputation of being a baller.
In 2 years the United States of America has the honor of hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics. It is a tremendous event, and it is imperative to represent the best of competition with respect and responsibility. We know that we are at a pivotal place in our country, and a guy who regards anyone not on his team as enemies has the ball.
We know he doesnt have the metal 🏅
