I got my introduction to Toastmasters in 7th grade and was immediately captivated with public speaking. I was the first Toastmaster in my class, responsible for running and organizing the meeting. It was my role to open, introduce, and close the meeting. I was hooked. I joined the Toastmasters club at the University of Oregon, the club at Nike Headquarters in Beaverton Oregon, and then the “Wry Toast” club in Tacoma Washington. This experience inspired me to start the “Bark No Bite” Public Speaking Club at the University of Washington Tacoma. As the Founder and President, I have recruited my classmates to join the club by sending emails, promoting through my previous professors, and presenting the club at the Involvement Fair at the university. “Bark No Bite” has been a resounding success and I hope, with the groundwork I have made, it will become a fixture and legacy on campus for years to come. I believe public speaking is a skill that scares most people, but this comfortable and supportive environment can help my classmates grow the art of public speaking.
